Canada's women's rugby team have been handed a huge boost with the fundraising of over $150,000 towards their World Cup preparations.Following the recent cancellation of the team's tour to New Zealand, the financial woes of the women's national team were put in the spotlight and a major fundraising drive was launched. The money has come from a variety of sources including Rugby Canada's board of directors, provincial unions and a number of donors. The money means that Canada's players can fully focus on the World Cup this summer in London and is a fantastic boost to the squad who will be confident of doing well at the tournament. Announced at the recent Rugby Canada AGM, the union, had already allocated $120 000 towards the team's budget for the year, but that figure more than doubled as a result of donations by the Board of Directors, pledges by the Provincial Unions totaling $100 000, and an astounding $30,000 contribution from a donor who requested anonymity.
