In recruiting for a fulltime 7s head coach for their international women, the NZRU are following in the footsteps of the Australian Rugby Union who in recent weeks have made their first appointment to thesame position.
The Head Coach role is a fulltime contract role from January 2012 until the Sevens Rugby World Cup in Moscow in July 2013 with a view to continuing in the role to prepare for the 2016 Olympics in which 7s will feature.
The job advert also points to the need for long-term talent identification saying: In selecting the NZ 7s team ensure that, players are selected based on their potential to be in Rio in 2016, as well as performing to their potential based on their stage of development."
