Maple Leafs win in Caribbean

The Maple Leafs were too strong for their Caribbean island opponents, scoring 273 points without conceding any.

On Day One most games went to seeding, However, Bermuda pushed the highly-fancied T&T team all the way in round one, matching them score for score and holding them to 12-12 before Trinidad captain Aiana Skeet scored the winning try with just over a minute to go.However they then struggled against newcomers Curacao, only winning by 14-10.

The major inter-island clash was kept until last, Trinidad recovering from am early Jamacia score from Wendy Parchement to win by 17-5

On Day Two, Bermuda were unable to recapture their first day form, and lost to hosts Cayman Islands 26-5, despite taking an early lead. With other quarter-finals going to form, this pitched the hosts against the Canadians in the first semi-final - a repeat of the opening game in Saturday.

The result was exactly the same, tries by Fredrique Rajotte Hannah Darling, Nikki Case Emily Belchos Jessica Dovanne and another by Case putting Maple Leafs into the final.

In the second semi-final Nicolette Pantor got Trinidad on the board first against Mexico with a long run from inside her half to make it 7-0, but Mexico responded with two tries of their own to bring them into the lead 10-7 at half time. A penalty for a high tackle in the second half allowed Mexico to score under the posts, and complete a 17-7 win.As a result, for the first time (apart from the 2008 World Cup qualifier) the Caribbean Championship did not see an island team competing in the final.
