Last rankings before the World Cup

The current pre-tournament rankings show how close the World Cup is likely to be.

England hold a slender lead over New Zealand, from being more active over the past twelve months, plus holding a 5-3 (with one draw) advantage in test matches between the two countries since the last tournament.

However France are not far behind, there is nothing to choose between Canada and the United States, while Ireland hold firm grip on sixth place. Samoa and Kazakhstan are the lowest ranked of the World Cup qualifiers, in 15th and 16th places.

Beyond the World Cup teams, Kenya move above Uganda after regaining the Elgon Cup - but Switzerland stay above both.
