Hopes high for Singapore ahead of home tournament

Tong said his side(pictured last week) are targeting a top three ranking this weekend where they will be joined by five other international teams.

Singapore were in Borneo, Malaysia last weekend competing in the Asia Pacific event wereKazakhstan werecrowned winners.

This weekend, on home soil, they'll be joined Japan by Hong Kong, India, Malaysia and Indonesia.

Tong said the events were good build up to Asian Games later this month. We are looking to maintain our momentum right through to the end of the month and have a crack at a podium finish.

His side are coming in from a relatively good camaign in Borneo last weekend where they beat more fancied Tonga and Samoa sides to produce two upsets. They were only just denied their goal in the nail-biting Plate Final against the Cook Islands that went into extra time.

Tong says performances should be even better this weekend, with all of their key players back in action.

We are definitely looking at top two rankings for this weekend at SCC 7's as it will be an all-Asia affair. Furthermore, without Asian powerhouses of China & Kazakhstan, our chances of making the cup finals are pretty high and we are quietly confident that we can do well.

The first womens game of the Singapore Cricket Club 7s will kick off this Friday.
