Dutch steal glory from final play

Brazil ended the historic year of 2024 with a long-awaited trip to the Netherlands to face the home team in two duels with an eye on the World Cup. In June, the Yaras achieved the unprecedented feat of qualifying for the Rugby World Cup, which will be played in August and September 2025.

In the cold of Amsterdam, Brazil played an even match against the orange team, but ended up being defeated at the end by 17 to 15. The Yaras took the game to half-time in a 3 to 3 draw, with Lohana kicking a penalty for Brazil.

In the second half, the Brazilians grew and scored the first try with Dayana, under pressure after a scrum, at 45'. The Brazilian pressure continued, with more volume of play and possession in the attacking field. The Yaras accumulated chances and, at 62', Claudinha received the ball open on the wing, after a good sequence of the Brazilian forwards, and scored the second Brazilian try, opening 15 to 3.

However, the final stretch of the game favoured the Dutch, who scored their first try, in the pick and go, at 65', with Prins. Brazil still had more chances, but in the final play the home team scored a maul and Koelman scored the decisive try to tie the game. Metz converted the kick and secured the victory by 17 to 15.

Brazil continues its preparations for next year's World Cup with more international games scheduled for the first half of the year, to be confirmed soon.

“We knew it would be a tough match and we managed to keep the game open until the end. Unfortunately, we didn’t win, but this is just the beginning of our journey to the World Cup. We’re going to go back home and train what we know we need to in order to improve,” said Luiza Campos, one of the most experienced athletes on the Brazilian team.
