Australia to focus on 7s

Following some camps earlier this year there are a number of training weekends planned for the national side in the coming months. A trip to Japan later this month to take part in the Tokyo 7s has been cancelled however with the event called off due to recent events there.

There are two major training camp weekends in April followed by others in July and September before a national 7s teams will compete at the Gold Coast 7s and Noosa 7s in November.

Australia who finished third at last year's Women's Rugby World Cup tend to focus on 7s and 15s in cycles depending on what competitions are coming up and with qualification for the 7s World Cup in 2013 likely to start next year, there will be a likely focus on that version of the sport.

Australia are the reigning world 7s champions.

Meanwhile the World Champions New Zealand have not taken part in any training together this year with an NZRU spokesperson saying that a calander of activity would be announced at the end of June.
