12 teams to compete for Scrumqueens title

Twelve top women's rugby sides will battle it out for the inaugural Scrumqueens.com womens 7s title at the RugbyRocks Tournament 12th June.

There are five teams from the RFUW Premier League competing alongside four other UK club-based sides, one Irish club team and two teams made up of a range of players from various clubs.

The womens competition will be split into three pools of four teams, with the top side from each pool going through to the Cup semi-finals, along with the overall best runner up. The other two group runners up will play in the Plate final. The Cup Final will take place on the main pitch at the end of the day, as a warm-up game for the National 7s series final.

The Scrumqueens.com womens 7s will be played alongside the RugbyRocks Mens Open, with 32 teams, and the National 7s Series featuring 9 core elite teams and 3 invitational teams.

Once the rugby is over the fun really begins with live music from FEEDER, The Parlotones, Just Jack (DJ) and many more top acts, while Englands first game at the Football World Cup will be shown live on big screens around the ground.

The club will be playing on their home ground and with two teams entered they will be hoping for some silverware. Their two sides will be made up of players from their three club sides, two of whom compete in the top two leagues in England.

The Bristol players will have many trips to London this year as theyll be travelling up this summer to see club captain Katherine Spencer skipper England at the World Cup. For this tournament theyll be hoping to kick-start a summer of silverware.

Another top side in the country, Wasps will also be able to choose from their two club sides, one of which was promoted this year to the second tier of club rugby in the UK. Though captain Shelley Rae is hoping to take a management role on the day, were confident the former England captain will be roped into competing in one or two games at least!

The Irish club side are travelling to London after a good season in Irelands top league, but the side who terrorise Kinsale every year with their fluorescent kit and how shall we put it extremely fun-loving squad- will certainly be up for plenty of fun late in the evening.

A top English club side, Sarries have entered what they are dubbing a social team into this competition but we reckon with the talent they have in abundance that theyll still be a team to watch for in the pool stages.

The Wooden Spoons play as representatives of the Wooden Spoon Charity and the squad usually comprises a mixture of experienced players including recently retired internationals and present players from the four home unions. These are top class competitive players and will be one of the tournament favourites.

A group of friends from different clubs around the UK, this side are well known on the 7s circuit as they compete regularly around Europe. Watch out for their eye catching kit!

Like the other Premier league teams at this event, despite not having their England players available, Worcester are likely to have a strong side and will be tough to beat in the pool stages.

After a stellar club season where they were promoted from their league in some style, Wimbledon will be hoping to keep their success going over the summer.

A popular side in South West London, Teddington certainly know how to have fun off the pitch. On the park the Busy Park based outfit will be hoping to make a mark this season on the 7s circuit although the team will line-up at Rugby Rocks just days after a 10-day end of season tour of Kenya, expect some tired legs!
