Spoons take the Scrumqueens title

The festival was a huge success with music from the Parlotones, Feeder and Just Jack proving a big hit after a huge crowd watched England's first World Cup game on the big screen.

Here's an overview of the day, played in brilliant sunshine in Richmond. Check our gallery later today for a selection of action shots from throughout the day.

Richmond's first team were the stars of this pool with a clean sweep over their pool opponents, Bristol PROPS, Wimbledon and Teddington.

Richmond, coached on the day by two of England's World Cup squad players Amy Turner and Alice Richardson, were too strong for the other three with their game against Bristol certainly proving the highlight of this pool.

For Richmond, Fran Matthews and Abi Chamberlain were two of the standout players on the day with Matthews in particular proving as tenacious in defence as she was impressive in attack.

The second placed pool in this team were Bristol whose efforts shone throughout the pool. Out wide Bristol used their pace to great effect with the likes of Liz Riley running in some great scores.

Teddington and Wimbledon found the going tough against sides ranked much higher above them in league terms but both put in spirited efforts in all of their games. Stand out players for these teams included Anja Sadlowski and Hannah Gutteridge as well as Emma Kennedy and Nicola Collins.

Any pool with the talented Wooden Spoons outfit was always going to be tough with the charity side made up of players who have represented their countries at some level. This time they were able to call on the likes of Michalea Stanford and Danni Knight, both full England internationals.

It was they who dominated with victories over the Lollipops from Ireland, Worcester and Hammersmith and Fulham.

For Worcester there were some eye catching performances most notably from former England scrum-half Jo Yapp fo ther team who qualified for the Plate Final.

The Lollipops, made up of players from Highfield in Cork, were the most colourful team on display and they were a tough side to break down throughout the pool. Impressive for this side were Ger Rae and Eilish Foley among others. Indeed the performances from Laura Guest must have reached Irish shores as the prop was later that evening invited to international training in Dublin the next day - meaning a much quieter night than planned for Laura!

Hammersmith and Fulham showed much spirit in their performances with Alethea Binfour showing her usual turn of pace with some great scores.

The third pool pitted Wasps, Saracens, the Pink Ba Baas and Richmond's second side against each other in the tightest group on the day.

Sarries were coached on the day by England star Maggie Alphonsi who certainly inspired her troops who were the overall pool winners.

Charlotte Goode and Ama Okafor were just two of their best players throughout the pool stages with the entire squad showing strength and vision throughout.

The Pink Ba Baas were the runners up in this group as their exciting performances carried them through to the Plate Final. For them Izzy Noel Smith, Kay Reese and Davinia Monteiro showed well.

Wasps are always a strong side in any rugby code and their day lit up with excellent showings from Sarah Michelson and Kit Ahweyevu who showed power and pace all day.

Richmond's second team also showed some good touches and despite some losses they were game throughout with Hannah Gifford catching the eye with some nice scores.

Pink Baas beat Worcester.

Wooden Spoons beat Richmond 1 and Saracens beat Bristol PROPS.

The Cup final was played on the main pitch and filmed by Sky Sports. The Wooden Spoons in the end were too strong for Saracens who battled gamely before going down 48-0.

Micheala Staniford stole the show with a hat-trick and an all-round excellent game while Mo Hunt's converting was of a terrific standard.

Staniford later won the Scrumqueens Player of the Tournament.
