Scotland set for national trials

Just weeks after finishing their Women’s Rugby World Cup campaign, Scotland’s coaches will be out in force this weekend with open trials for players looking to make the national squad for next season being held at Murrayfield.

Scotland set for national trials

The trials will not involved players who were part of the World Cup and new and fringe player will be hoping to impress enough to try and force their way into coach Gary Parkers plans for next year.

An eventual squad of 35 will be invited back for further trial matches in October. The overall squad when eventually named, will form the players to contest the 2011 6 Nations plus a warm-up game later this year.

Players who are unsuccessful will have the opportunity to take part in a Senior Regional Programme from January to March 2011.

Scotland will also this season scrap their Womens Academy and replace it with an U20 squad focused on developing younger players to increase strength in depth.

The U20 squad trial will take place in October 10.

Scotland finished 8th at this years World Cup one place higher than the 2006 competition.
