The Kenya and Uganda women's rugby sides will battle it out again this weekend for the return leg of the Elgon Cup.
Uganda won last week's game on home soil in a tight 8-5 match and the Kenyans are eager to tie the series.
There is never much between these two sides who play each other regularly and so it proved to be last weekend in Kampala with the women's match held as a curtain raiser to the men's match between the same nations.
The game was tight throughout and neither side could break the deadlock in the first half. The second half was equally close and it took half an hour before Fortune Irankunda broke through to score and give Uganda a 5-0 lead.
Kenyan captain Celestine Masinde soon equalized before Christine Kizito gave Uganda the win with a late penalty.
Kenya coach Sammy Kemmy said:
"The Ugandans used their strong forwards as platforms in the game, which we will have to address come the weekend. We are also trying to make a request through the Kenya Rugby Union to have international accredited referees to also officiate the women’s game as some of the calls during the game we felt were unnecessary."
Kemmy said he expects a physical return leg.
"I expect the Ugandans to come with their guns blazing, but to counter their charges we need to tackle them hard and secure all our rucks and keeping all our ball in hand and follow the basics principle of pace, patience, persistence and penetration to win us the game.
We need to give the Kenyan fans their first Elgon cup in a final played in their home ground."
The match takes place this Saturday.
